Southern Regional senior Kyle Casaletto, a three-time Region VI champion, three-time New Jersey state medalist and two-time state runner-up has committed to wrestle at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., as first reported by The Asbury Park Press.
Casaletto chose the South Carolina military school over Division II Newberry College, also in South Carolina, which features such former Shore Conference stars as Jackson Memorial’s Sean Byrnes and B.J. Young, Toms River North’s Brian and Dave Newman and Matt Oliver. The Citadel competes in the Southern Conference as a Division I school and features former St. Benedict’s Prep wrestler Turtogtokh Luvsandorj. The Bulldogs were 8-12 last season, but have been making steady progress under head coach Rob Hjerling.
Casaletto gave his verbal commitment on April 24 and will sign his National Letter of Intent on Friday May 6. Casaletto finished his career with a 123-17 record and is fourth all-time on Southern’s career wins list.
